The Children’s Sponsorship Program (CSP)

Samaritana Transformation Ministries is an organization committed to help prostituted Filipino women by offering a hand of friendship, sense of community and non-formal educational training to equip them for a better alternative vocation or source of livelihood. Therefore, Samaritana launched the ‘Back to School Program’ for their children in 2007, with Lasten Tulevaisuus-Children’s Future providing primarily the financial support. This program is to assist and support the mothers toward their transformation and at the same time pave the way for the sponsored children to have better economic opportunities in the future.
Every year, we support fifteen (15) to twenty (20) students who attend different primary and secondary public schools in Metro Manila. Aside from basic educational needs and allowances to cover uniforms, shoes and bags, etc., we give support in the form of individual tutoring, medical and dental check-up, and family day activities attended by both mothers and children aimed not only for fellowship but also as training for mothers on parenting and positive discipline techniques.

For school year 2012-2013, we granted our very first college scholarship to Maria Marve Ferolina, who is now on her first year of a 4-year course major in Education. She has been our scholar since 2007 when she was still in primary school. With great motivation, Maria Marve met all the criteria set by Samaritana for the scholarship -  an average grade of at least 90 in the last two years  of secondary school,  good moral character (had no disciplinary cases at school) and consistently fulfilled the CSP policies. Aside from the academic achievement, the family’s incapacity to shoulder the cost of education and the selection of an affordable college were other factors in granting the scholarship.
